Misfire (01/11)
And like that, the first 24 hours of NaNoWriMo are over. Signed off. Sealed. Stamped with a bureaucratic marking and dumped in a filing cabinet.
If NaNoWriMo is the literary equivalent of running the 3-Minute Mile (and the estimated 50,000 words in a month sure sounds like an apt comparison), then I should have set pen to paper at the crack of dawn, and hurtled through the first 1,000-odd words of my project.
Instead, I think I did the literary equivalent of hitting snooze, and rolling back over for just another nine minutes. Poor form, Durbridge.
This is partially because of two things: one, today was a Friday – nothing good is ever started on a Friday. And two, I was at work. I know, this is going to be a repeated excuse (especially that second one), but I feel that they ganged up on me, stole my lunch money and left me with little recourse but to do as I was told. This will change tomorrow. I have an arsenal of tools at my disposal, and they will see a marked improvement on today’s activity.
KEEP ME HONEST – CHECK IN ON ME!
End of Day Word Count: Zero. (but a motivating zero)
How’s that word count looking now, Nick? Good luck with the project, I think having a goal really helps!
It’s looking a whole lot better, thanks! I think that Day One count was a bit of a cold slap in the face, but hey – keep reading and see for yourself!
